Should I shut down my print publication?

Photo of digital copy of Christian Science Monitor newspaperI have been fascinated by the popularity of digital online media. I still receive dozens of magazines each month that I read in bed, on the couch, or even in the bathroom, and I am imagining that some day that will change too, but I simply stopped reading a print newspaper more than five years ago (sorry New York Times).

And that is when I predicted how digital will replace print. Now we have reached a point that that by the time something is printed it is already obsolete. Plus there are concerns about environmental implications of reading something in print (trees cut for paper and the shipping cost of newspapers over long distances). In other words, digital media is the way we will consume entertainment and news.

No surprise then that one of the oldest newspapers, Christian Science Monitor, will cease print publication and will become 100% print. I know so many publications are struggling right now and if they don’t follow in the steps of CSM, they might as well count their days to extinction.
