Japanese love dolls
In the community of robotics experts, there is an ongoing discussion about how robots will become part of our lives. Not just give a massage or clear gutters or answer the phone or act as a dancing partner or explore outer space but to fall in love to. Scientists are already talking about how people in just a few years time may be able to have intimate relationships with their robots. Of course, Japan will drive this trend forward due to its leadership in robotics and also the acceptance of machines by Japanese people.
Here are two good videos to watch. A real life story of a Japanese man who has given up on relationships with real people and instead spends his personal time with what the Japanese call as Love Dolls. Another of a movie called “Lars and the Real Girl” in which the actor (Ryan Gosling) falls in love with his love doll, Bianca. While this may appear to be rather bizzarre behavior today, it is only a matter of time before we all will spend a lot more time with virtual dolls that will take the place of real people – they will be smarter, not moody, never tired, and always serving us.
