How to eat iTunes’s lunch?

iTunes has been so successful that every media company out there wants a piece of the online music distribution pie. While we have numerous examples of industry leaders knocked off their pedestal by their competitors (American automakers), we also know that first movers also have a huge advantage (Google with its search ads). One company that I highlighted earlier is called eMusic. Now Real Networks, Inc. (RNWK) is teaming up with MTV (parent company Viacom, Inc. VIA) to push Rhapsody. Can it beat iTunes any time soon? I don’t think so. Music is a commodity and anyone can only afford to compete on price – not necessarily a winning strategy.
