If we didn’t make (good-natured) fun of each other, how will we laugh? There is no excuse for bigotry or hatred or racism but I think we should be able to laugh at ourselves. The way we look or talk or behave are all unique and if others find it funny, the best thing is to simply join them in a good laugh.
Unfortunately, we live in a world where you never know when people are engaging in plain fun or the joke is driven by hatred. In the case of Simpsons, well, it is meant to be a comedy, and the best thing to do is to just enjoy the jokes. For businesses, it may not always be a smart thing to come across as insensitive despite the fact that controversy may sometimes be good. I hope 7-Eleven and others will learn something from the controversy.
So is the characterization of Indians in “The Simpsons Movie” racist? I doubt it. It is simply a very funny show and we have all enjoyed every bit of it for years. Hey, Indians, get a sense of humor.
