Movies on mobile phones
Like almost all mobile phone owners, I am very skeptical of spending my precious time staring at a screen that is small and not designed to be looked at for too long. Most of us are even more skeptical of advertisers, who by calling themselves with fancy names like “direct marketers” will resort to SPAM or telemarketing, even though we would like to have some sort of web access on the phone.
With this in mind, I have been fascinated by an experiment conducted in the Czech Republic. Movies that are just 80 seconds long and can be watched on a cell phone were shown to viewers. Yes, I could imagine myself watching something like that. It is entertainment, not intrusive, and participatory (you get to vote). Plus, I wouldn’t even mind embedded advertising if the video clip was free.
Similarly, the Platform International Animation Festival presented films that could be seen not just on the big screen but also on the tiny screens.
