Web services online marketplace

While yesterday I had recommended an eBay for the real estate market, I think before we get that, we have gotten something else that is equally exciting. An eBay for web services. The StrikeIron Web Services Marketplace that has just been launched enables online transactions for web services.

While an online marketplace is generally beneficial for everyone, it benefits small and medium sized businesses even more. It also motivate new users to embrace a new technology.

The benefits of web services are many and one area in which I see a huge opportunity is electronic health records. While I have some doubts about the kind of savings RAND is predicting, iProceed research shows that web services provide an excellent choice when there are too many participants in a network with IT resources that are less friendly to each other. That happens to be the case with our healthcare providers.

StrikeIron already has an impressive list of providers that includes Avalinx, Cdyne, DesertSoft, RealEDA, Relevant Automation, SourceKit, and Xignite,

While web services have had a slow start, the value is understood by all, since these tools can be used to implement live data feeds and thus eliminate the time consuming, costly and error prone methods of bulk data importing, exporting and cleanup resulting in greater productivity at a lower cost.
