Waiting for Sopranos 2
Sopranos has been a remarkable success story. My friends in Japan (many of whom have never been to the United States) talk as passionately about it as we do (though they seem to be getting wrong ideas that crime is that high for us here).
So is it surprising that the end was an anti-climax, sort of? No, I had actually expected it. We are seeing that all around us. Once you build such a strong brand the best way to create value is to extend it. Actually, after 8 years, we are seeing no fatigue among the fans. That is why it was a good idea to take a break when they are still “hungry.” And now the producers can create a Sopranos II (though I think that not all sequels are that good; for instance, Pirates of the Caribbean Dead Man’s Chest) or a movie or a video game. Chances are they too will all be successful.
