Will iPhone be another iPod?
What a transformation for Apple? A company that gave us easy-to-use computers is now a consumer electronics giant. Apple, indeed, is a classic case study of business model transformation. We were all seeing how the PC market was being commoditized and Windows and Linux were not giving any home to Apple to increase its market share in operating system market. The company had its hardcore fans but the growth of that segment was dismal.
That is when Steve Jobs transformed the company was launching iPod and iTunes – now company makes more money from them than its original business. We will now have iPhone. The buzz is definitely there and I am hopeful that sales will be impressive too – I am so disappointed that the best mobile phones are sold in Japan, Europe, and even in poor countries like China and India. Our cell phones are simply boring, overpriced, and come bundled with so many disincentives that no one wants to upgrade.
