Web on my cell phone
It is everyone’s dream to be able to access the web any time, any where the way we can do it on a personal computer. Of course, I do not envision surfing the web to read blogs or search for a new pair of shoes, but I would love to be able to search for addresses, phone numbers, directions, and even updates on really important news (for instance, the students at Virginia Tech would have been in much better shape if they had been able to get up-to-date information on the violence on the campus).
There are still way too many barriers to accessing the web on a mobile phone. Many websites do not show up on the mobile web (and I fully understand why anyone would not want to invest in those changes – the user base simply is too small) because they are not optimized for it, plus advertising is simply a terrible idea – survey after survey says that consumers do not like to bombarded with ads on their phones, and finally, it is expensive for consumers to access the web. In this context, it is interesting to note that companies like DotMobi are trying to make it easier but time will tell where this will go.
