Microsoft gets desperate
It appears that Yahoo-Microsoft discussions did not go too far. Both companies are desperate to grab whatever piece of the pie they can grab from Google, Inc. (which established itself as a major player in the online ad business with its acquisition of DoubleClick). Almost immediately, Yahoo nabbed RightMedia, and it looks as if Microsoft Corporation did not want to lag behind any further and without any lengthy review, it just bought aQuantive at a whopping $6 billion (85% premium). You start to wonder what were they thinking in Redmond!
Indeed, it is “hot” out there on the web and I am glad I and our firm are part of this action.
Since we work with Google very closely, of course, I am a little biased, but having watched this space for a good five years now, I am confident that there is simply no threat to its dominant position.
