How to succeed with online advertising?
The success of Google shows that online advertising is working for everyone: merchants, Google, and its group of publishers, that includes firms like ours. While Google has aggressively recruited almost every single publisher who wants to monetize its online content, a quick search will show that some of them are extremely disappointed in generating critical mass of revenue. Here are a few thoughts based on the tremendous success that our firm has had:
- Unless you have enormous (free or extremely cheap) traffic, dump all the affiliate programs (we have tried Amazon, CJ, LinkShare, ClickBank, etc.). It is OK to have them as secondary sources of revenue but affiliate programs based business model is not for those who own and operate content-rich websites.
- Since we work only with AdSense, I can only speak for what you can do to succeed (close to 99% of our revenue comes from AdSense):
- ——> Blend the ads.
——> Always have one block at the top and one at the bottom of the article. DO NOT put in the sidebar. Want to see an excellent example? Look at this page.
——> Change your content focus. Opinions, news, stories, etc. do not perform well. The best performing content is a “how-to” or a review. In other words, if there is nothing to buy or check out, no one is interested in ads.
If you do these, I am confident that advertising income will soar for you.
