Learn from Lord John Browne case

As someone who has spent many years working in the advanced materials industry, I was one of the admirers or John Browne, the chief executive of BP. Not only did he set apart the company in the petrochemical sector, he was among the first industry leaders to recognize that global warming was not something to deny but to deal with as a potential business threat. He made BP embrace the change and transform how it approaches it, unlike companies like ExxonMobil that have engaged in a program of running away from a real business problem.
That is why it is very sad that he has to leave under such unfortunate circumstances. Apparently, not only did he lie about his relationship with Jeff Chevalier, he reportedly used company resources to help him. Reminds one of Paul Wolfowitz and Shaha Riza.
The message is clear. Keep your private and professional life separate and that includes dating colleagues or using the privileges of your job to help a loved one.
