Office romance is risky
Considering the amount of time we spend at work and the vacation days that we forgo, it is only natural that many of us develop a liking for someone at work. Office romance, however, is rarely a good idea. The case of Paul Wolfowitz and Shaha Riza shows that dating colleagues is very dangerous, particularly because in this case Wolfowitz did what HR managers fear the most: one party may try to help the other and thinking may become clouded, resulting in workplace disharmony.
So what can you do if you do fall in love with a coworker?
- One of the partners should immediately quit. While many companies allow a transfer, I personally suggest that if your relationship is important to you, one of the partners should simply find another job.
- In the meantime do not something stupid like granting favors to your partner. Office relationships can hurt both of you in that case.
