Picture of America Ferrera as Ugly Betty.
I was browing a magazine today and saw this full-page ad that looked like a resume for an entry level position. I have heard many stories of creative (and sometimes stupid) things people do to get a job, but this was the first time I saw a full page ad in a magazine. I thought it was very clever and I got curious to the point that I headed to the website listed on the resume (there are a couple of real phone numbers listed as well). And look what I found? The home page for Ugly Betty – a new show produced by Salma Hayek based on the highly successful Betty La Fea (I watched a few episodes of the original Spanish version – translated in real time by my wife; it was pretty funny even for someone who does not like telenovelas).

I had highlighted how John Tucker Must Die was marketed solely through a MySpace page, but I think this trick by ABC is really clever. In other words, while it seems that everything has already been done, you can still come up with something very clever to market your website.
