Two of my teenage nieces spent about 10 ten days visiting us this summer. It was nice to see them after two years and it also gave us an opportunity to do things that we typically may not do, like bringing them to some of the tourist spots in the Boston area that we had not visited ourselves for a while.
Apart from that we also chatted about pop culture, what television programs they were watching, and what else do teens enjoying doing these days. One program that they are both obsessed with is Gossip Girl.
It is a typical teenage drama that addresses some of the issues that teenagers struggle with every day. It also caught my attention when some of the Gossip Girl fashion was compared to those seen on Sex & The City, but modified for teens.
What is very interesting is the advertising campaign launched by CW to promote Gossip Girl. As you can see from the pictures above and those on the website showing Blake Lively, Leighton Meester, Penn Badgley, Chace Crawford and Taylor Momsen, the producers are employing the same techniques that they use to market to adults.
More importantly, though, one of the biggest secrets of advertising is to offend the conservatives, particularly the religious types, as we saw in the case of Golden Compass movie. Once you successfully do that, these idiots will do the marketing for you for free.
